How you can get a California business license.
In California it is required by the state to get the correct business license for your business, because this allows them to collect 1,000,000's of dollars in taxes that they need in order to pay for the services that they use for the public. For example if you live and do business in Los Angeles, you will need to file your business with the city/county/and or state.
Many people who are worried about identity theft also get a Federal ID Number, because this number acts as a identifier that the federal government can use to identify both the owner of the business as well as the business.
Another thing that most small business owners will need, because it is requred by law, is a Tax ID Number. This will basically tell the federal government that you are paying your taxes when you sell your items, or sales tax.
These three items are the most important for my business (a small eBay business that I have started in my spare time).

DON'T FORGET!! if you own your own business and are plannning to purchase products wholesale and sale them to the public with tax (the taxed item is to pay for your government taxes) then you will need a Seller's Permit. This permit enables you to do so and is required by law.

Don't forget, you will need to obtain a State Tax ID if your business has employees.

Yeah i have a small online clothing business and your right i needed to get a business license and a federal tax id. However i also had to get a state tax id because i have two part- time employees to help run my website and distribute my clothing.

A Business License should be the first thing that you obtain when conducting a new business. This is serious you should have this certificate before opening your new business otherwise your business can be asked to shut down. Mystery shoppers can ask and for this license and report you to the department. Make sure you have this done proffesionally otherwise it will take a while to get this document back filed the correct way.
